Cinque Terre

Hiking Cinque Terre wasn't easy, especially with 40 pound backpacks.

We realized there was a bag check after we finished.

Cinque Terre is composed of the five crazily constructed fishing villages (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore). Cars aren't allowed, so to visit, you have to take trains or ferries to get from town to town.

Or be crazy and hike the trails like we did.

But the view was incredible.....

Riomaggiore, the most substantial of the five towns, is a fantastic tangle of pastel houses that lean on each other like a bunch of drunken sailors. A cliff-hanging trail leads from the beach ot old Nazi bunkers and a hilltop botanical garden.

The next town is Manarola, home of one of the best cliffs to dive from.. but more on that in a later post.
